About
Brittany Romano, the long version
I am a creative, editor and stylist, and I have published more than 2,100 stories, launched the gifting and weddings vertical at Reviewed, and run affiliate programs that returned more than a million dollars a month.
The beginning
Wallingford to the market desk
I grew up in Wallingford, Connecticut, and I went to New England College to become a therapist. I took a degree in sociology in 2014 and never took the license, but I kept the training, and it taught me to sit still, to listen longer than is comfortable, and to pay attention to what a person is doing rather than to what she is saying. That turned out to be the entire job of an editor.
Nobody was handing mastheads to girls from Wallingford, so I talked my way into every room I wanted, and when I could not find a door, I found a window. I started at the Weinstein Company, moved to Kelly Cutrone’s People’s Revolution, and landed on the Marie Claire market desk with a styling kit living in the back of my car. What a person wears is the first argument she makes before she opens her mouth, and I have been reading that argument ever since.
The work
A decade in commerce editorial
At American Media I wrote shopping coverage across Us Weekly, OK!, Radar Online and Men’s Journal, and generated more than one million dollars in monthly affiliate revenue for six consecutive months. My Allbirds campaign won Content Strategy of the Year at the 2019 ThinkTank Network Awards.
At Future I was e-commerce and shopping editor across the homes brands, where I created and launched Wake Up With Me, the celebrity video franchise that lifted audience engagement by 70 percent and expanded the brand’s share of the United States market.
At Reviewed, part of the USA Today Network, I was Celebrations Editor. I built and launched the gifting and weddings vertical and its How I Celebrate series, and the Amazon Prime Day coverage I optimized contributed to more than four million dollars in sales.
At Better Homes & Gardens I was a senior editor, directing a team of six editors and thirty freelancers producing more than sixty lab-tested, search-optimized stories a month.
Since 2023 I have written as a freelance contributor for Glamour, Teen Vogue, Forbes, Forbes Vetted, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Oprah Daily, Veranda, Condé Nast Traveler, Bon Appétit, Parade and The Kitchn.
Today
What I do now
I write the stories, style the shoots, and tell brands which affiliate programs are actually earning and which ones are being reported generously. I sit on the junior board of the Accessories Council. I publish The Blur, a weekly letter on what to wear, what to buy and who is behaving badly, and I keep a running edit of what I am actually buying.
I am not selling anyone a lifestyle. I have strong opinions about hemlines, lamps and liars, and I have never believed that the most interesting thing in a room is the thing people are willing to say out loud.
